What are some of your hobbies/interests?
I’m equally into cool hobbies and nerdy hobbies. I enjoy sports, motorcycles, poker, fitness; I also enjoy video games and trading card games like Magic The Gathering. I’m a big Disney and Star Wars fan. I’ve worked as a Disney Fairytale Wedding DJ when I lived in California.
Why did you become a DJ?
My dad is a musician, so I think music was always in my blood. I was into the early 2000s LA dance music scene when it still considered “rave/techno” and “underground”. Can you believe some dance clubs and raves used to be all ages back then? I went to several events, saw the DJs perform on the stage, seeing the happiness, energy, and excitement from the crowd, and that’s when I knew that’s what I wanted to do. Growing up in LA, I was also into 90s hip-hop! DJs are a staple of both cultures, so it came naturally. My mom bought me my first DJ setup for my 16th birthday, it was a Numark DJ-in-a-Box kit, and the rest is history, thanks mom!
What’s important to you about working at Sight & Sound Events?
Working with a team of experienced professionals that have a great reputation for putting on amazing events in Las Vegas. It’s a unique location, and a lot of clients/couples might not understand some of the logistical quirks and challenges that come along with it. Our team has the knowledge and experience you need to create a fun and memorable event for you and all your guests here in Las Vegas.
What’s your favorite song to play at a wedding and why?
I have a special place in my heart for movie soundtracks that also make for good wedding soundtracks. 80s songs take the cake here. The Power of Love by Huey Lewis from Back to the Future, I love that iconic 80s sound and it always gets a great reaction from guests. Another favorite is Somebody’s Baby by Jackson Browne from Fast Times at Ridgemont High, when you hear it there’s not a single head that’s not bobbing in the room.
What general advice would you give a couple preparing for their wedding?
Your vendor team is here for you. Ask us questions, ask for suggestions, pick our brains. Our goal is to help you create an event that you and your guests will enjoy. It might be your first time (and hopefully last! lol), but it’s not ours. We’ve been there, done that. Trust the professionals, and you’ll be glad you did.
What should every couple know before meeting with their wedding DJ?
The DJ is such a key part of any wedding. People might not remember what was served for dinner or what outfit they wore, but they will definitely remember the music and how much fun they had at your wedding. Trust your DJ to take your preferences into account and curate an amazing soundtrack for the evening. We will always play the songs on your “must-play” list, but too many must-play songs or requests can restrict your DJ from doing what they do best.
What has been your most memorable event moment thus far?
There is nothing like DJing a Disney Fairytale Wedding, it’s simply magical. You really get to put on a show and you’re expected to entertain the crowd and be more than just a DJ. We love to interact with the guests and play games like Disney music trivia. I love wearing my favorite Star Wars tie and Disney pin, it’s the little things and the guests really do take notice! In Vegas, we’ve had Elvis performers and other impersonators and it’s always a fun time!
Describe your DJ style?
They say an experienced wedding DJ can get different generations out there dancing and that’s exactly what I’m able to do. While some other amateur wedding DJs might drop “bangers” as soon as dancing begins, I like to start off with songs that everyone can enjoy, allowing younger kids and family members to have a good time too. Then as the night progresses, I’ll move more into party-mode, as the older guests and kids call it a night, it’s now time for the couple, their wedding party, and younger guests to party and let it all out on the dance floor.
How do you know when you’re doing a good job?:
When the Father of the Bride has his tie around his forehead, turns around and gives you the double finger-guns, you know you’re killing it. It’s also when the bride and groom, their parents, or the guests come up to thank you at the end of the night and compliment you. That’s a great feeling knowing that you’ve made their night one that they’ll never forget.
How would others describe you?:
Amazing song selection and a strong ability to read the crowd. Professional, funny, friendly, entertaining, energetic. I know that wedding DJs are known for being notoriously cheesy, and that’s why it’s so important to work with a team of modern DJs that are in touch with today’s standards and wedding trends. If you’re walking down the aisle to Canon in D, I’m probably not the DJ for you. If you’re having a beer boy instead of a flower girl, let’s talk.
What was the last thing you said to yourself just before you got out of bed this morning?:
Another day in Paradise! (That’s a Vegas reference, if you know you know.)
